1.7 Peer Perception

Today's lesson will be about:

Objectives
You will be able to:
  • Recall the difference between editing and peer perception and what constitutes effective feedback (specific, constructive, polite and honest) learned in ESL 111 peer perception training.
  • Provide feedback on your peer's writing related to how you perceive the main ideas and structure of the paper.
  • Negotiate meaning of peer's comments and possible revisions/adjustments through discussion.

***When you give feedback, remember three bullet points here.
  • Make sure your comments are specific (i.e., describe exactly what you didn’t understand or didn’t agree with, or identify exactly what you thought was especially good).
  • Make sure your comments are constructive (i.e., offer a suggestion to improve what you did not understand, briefly explain why you did not agree, or state why you thought something was especially good).
  • Make sure your comments are polite and honest (i.e., do not command the writer to change – suggest ways to improve).
